Reiki for animals

Just as Reiki is beneficial for humans, it can also help animals with their healing processes. Like humans, all animals have chakras and can access universal healing energy, or "ki." Animals are often attracted to Reiki energy; cats are infamous for nosing their way into Reiki treatments, whether they have been invited or not!

A Reiki treatment for an animal works much the same as it does for a person, although an animal is not expected to lie for an hour on a massage table. Rather, the animal dictates the process, including location, length of the treatment, and where the Reiki is to be directed. As with people, Reiki for animals can aid with both physical and emotional healing.

Tinkerbell's story

I first became interested in Reiki for animals when my Rat Terrier, Tinkerbell, was attacked by another dog. The damage was severe and the prognosis poor. She had two serious wounds to her hindquarters, which required four drainage tubes. The vet predicted she would need more surgeries: she had lost a great deal of fatty tissue  and the vet expected the remaining tissue would become necrotic. I was to return in one week to further discuss Tinkerbell's prognosis.

I followed the post-surgical treatment regimen, cleansing the wounds multiple times each day and administering antibiotics, painkillers, and anti-inflammatory medicine as directed. I also performed Reiki for Tinkerbell each time I cleaned the wound. Within three days, Tink was trying to jump down from the bed and the wounds looked better.

At our one-week check-in,  I saw a different vet (the doctor who had performed surgery was not available due to the timing of the appointment.) The new vet was stunned by Tinkerbell's recovery. From  reading Tinkerbell's file, she had expected the wounds to have worsened from necrosis. Instead, Tink was well on her way to healing. I continued the Reiki, and Tinkerbell made a full recovery without secondary infections or necrosis. She did, however, have a dent in her hindquarters for quite some time from the loss of fatty tissue.

Inspired by this experience, I now offer pre- and post-surgical Reiki treatments, along with treatment for chronic conditions, for pets of all kinds. Please call or email for more information.
